Our Heritage
A Legacy Founded in 1911
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University, Washington, D.C. — the first international fraternity established at a historically Black university. The Alpha Xi Chapter carries that founding spirit into West Georgia.
The Founders
- Edgar Amos Love
- Oscar James Cooper
- Frank Coleman
Three undergraduates whose vision, guided by faculty adviser Dr. Ernest Everett Just, gave rise to a brotherhood now spanning the globe.
From the campus of Howard University to communities across the world, the men of Omega have stood for excellence, service, and the enduring bond of friendship. The name itself is drawn from a Greek phrase meaning, “Friendship Is Essential To The Soul.”
In West Georgia, the Alpha Xi Chapter answers that call — investing in scholars, mentoring young men, and uplifting the community through purposeful service.
